Our Thoughts:

We are back in Cuzco after four days on the Inca Trail. We spent nearly the entire day in Machu Picchu (on Sunday, November 16th, 2008) and felt strong enough to hike up Winay Picchu, the famous mountain behind the ruins in all the “Postcard Photos”. For reference, it’s the tall peak over our left shoulders, to the right of the above photo. The trail was fantastic, with awesome fellow trekkers and great food. We are still trying to grapple with everything that we experienced over those 5 days, but had an excellent experience and are VERY fortunate to have completed the trail.

We were trekking with the Cuzco-based tour company Peru Treks. Our fantastic guides were Hubert and Ricardo; William was our head chef and created some amazing food that rivaled most of the non-transportable restaurants that we’ve been in. We had hearty soups, chicken, pork, beef, vegetarian, eggs, pancakes, desserts of all kinds (including a celebratory cake for our newly-weds friends, Danny and Lois), teas, popcorn, and the list goes on and on. Our good friend, Lynne, recommended Peru Treks after her adventure during summer 2007. She pointed out their socially responsible policies and initiatives, which we found to be of the highest quality. Peru Treks certainly deserves our highest recommendations and if you’re interested in hiking the Inca Trail (or other Cuzco-based adventures) please give consideration to Peru Treks!
